OTC Medicine Has Benefit?

Small dose dextromethorphan administered to mice having the laboratory model of multiple sclerosis experienced reduced loss of myelin and  fewer paralytic effects. Dextromethorphan is a safe chemical ingredient found in over the counter cough medicine.

Macaque Monkeys May Make MS Model

Macaque monkeys at a primate research center have spontaneously developed a disease with similar characteristics of multiple sclerosis in humans. It is hoped that further research among this population of affected primates will provide answers and treatment for the disease.

Inflammation Discoveries

Researchers in the UK have found a compound that not only inhibits the inflammation occurring in MS it also stimulates natural production of  interferon-beta. Various interferon are now injected by MS patients to delay progression of the disease. This discovery is being investigated as a safer, more efficient way of accomplishing that task.
